Psychotherapy and counselling are both 'talking therapies'. My home page outlines how I would work with you although an initial consultation, putting you under no obligation to continue, enables you to talk about this in relation to your own difficulties.
There are several forms of therapy some are short term and would give you coping strategies: these are more directive such as cognitive behaviour therapy ( CBT). Others such as person centred therapy lay less emphasis on childhood experience and the unconscious. I work longer term psychodynamically/psychoanalytically. A focus may be exploring links between childhood experience and adult patterns which may no longer work for you in how you relate to others. What may lie under these patterns are often unconscious(out of awareness).
